Ecological Footprint

My ecological footprint said it would take 8.4 Earths the first time I took it, but then I forgot about the rest of the information, redid it, and somehow ended up with 6.6 Earths. So, my data on the 6.6 Earths try was, 29.2 global acres to support my lifestyle, 33.9 tons of carbon dioxide, and services was the highest % with 27.

Topic of paper.

For my paper, I will most likely write about either economic or environmental issues that we will be facing throughout the upcoming years.

Going without technology.

Going without communication technology was annoying. I am on the computer constantly when at home, on the internet, playing games, etc, so it was a hassle. I like to read, so I just ended up reading for most of the day, or forced myself to sleep. The cell phone wasn't too bad, because I've lost it for a long duration of time, 2 weeks, over the summer, so one day was do-able. I'd just text people back the next day or call them back, and it was no big deal. So all-in-all, not too bad, but not something I want to do regularly.

Thesis/Outline

Planet Green and Darfur is Dying both have serious messages about the problems each game depicts, however, the presentation of these problems is more appropriately refelected by Plant Green's representation;

Introduction: Briefly describe each game and how they are played.

Body 1/2- Go further into the make up of each game and certain strategies they use to relay their message.

Body 3- Compare/Contrast.

Conclusion- Bring closure/summary.

3 games.

In the game 'Darfur is Dying,' the goal of the game is to get a kid or adult to the border. On your conquest to the border you have to avoid the hunters. If your character is captured you are given two paths to take, either to go to the camp and die or to start the game over. Later on you are asked to send a letter to a congressman concerning the issues in Darfur. The game is an educational game with serious subject matter. However, the presentation of the game is given in a way that makes it somewhat humorous, when in fact, the subject is not meant to be taken in anything but a serious way.

The next game that I played was 'Click for Obama.' It is fairly obvious that this game was meant to primarily be a persuasive/advergame right off the bat. The persuasive aspect of the game is to get you to vote for Obama. It also must be an advergame because it's promoting Obama. Also, Obama is constantly put into your mind seeing as it is everywhere on the site and in the game. There are educational parts of it, such as the questions asked, but they are simplistic and should not be missed.

The last video game that I played was called 'Plant Green Game.' The primary objective of this game is to be an education game. This is achieved by informing the player how to conserve energy and how to be more efficient. The goal of the game is to travel Evergreen Town looking for various ways of reducing CO2 emissions and global warming's impact. Whenever a mission was completed, a pop-up would appear giving techniques of reducing waste and conserving energy.
